Façades

This post desrcibes the façades and related thoughts.

We start with the east façade where the entrance is.
Steps were inevitable, due to the lot's topology. The triangle-shaped window's base is at the two-meter level. The idea was that the window should let in plenty of light and still facilitate the furnishing of the house. This solution also provides the living room with privacy from future neighbors.

You also see the kids' French doors, selected to maximize the light inlet and provide access to the outdoors in the summertime. You also see two tiny windows. These are intended for airing and are too small for a person to crawl through. That is, we can leave these windows open when we are not at home.

Next is the south façade.
Here is a large roof sloping approximately 37 degrees. It is 75 square meters. We drew this roof in order to cover it with solar panels. Now, having the facts, we know that we will only use 15 square meters for the solar panels. Possibly we may install solar cells in the future for the production of electricity, but is not applicable today.

The three large windows belong to the living room. These provide some light inlet and can be partly opened. Below the house you see a part of the garage. The left and western parts are hidden by rock. In the middle and extending the garage is the carport. Not visible is a flight of steps along the garage's south and west walls. This flight of steps provides access to the terrace on top of the garage and outside the living room.

On top of the large roof, there are three windows. These windows provide some light inlet to the southern rooms on the upper floor.

Next is the west façade.
The west façade can be seen from a vacant lot owned by the seller of our lot. If this lot to the west is built upon, it should not affect us, because our house is located at a somewhat higher level, and the triangular window in the living room blocks the view from future neighbors. On the ground floor you see a small window to the left and north. This is located behind the kitchen's sink and offers some light and a view to the one doing the dishes. There is also an exit from the kitchen to the terrace. On top of the kitchen is our bedroom, with two French doors for light inlet and access to the outdoors in the summertime. Also nice for airing the bedding.

The north façade appears from the commonage.
On this façade you can see quite a few tiny airing windows, two narrow windows in the kitchen and two quite large windows in the middle supporting the inside staircase.
