A Grand Thursday

Report from April 3:

Today a lot of things happened at building site. We start in the morning:

A gigantic 40-ton (metric) crane is on site. Today the large wall parts have arrived from the house manufacturer. The limited free space on the lot causes a real problem. There is hardly no space for all the material arriving. The crane is capable of lifting the entire south and north façades in single lifts and to lift and heavy pallets of plasterboards to the other side of the house.

Here is a picture from the ground floor's lower layer. A square has been sawed out above a main partition wall. Here a pillar (the one to the right) will stand supporting a large opening between the kitchen and the living room.

Here's another hole in the floor. A structural wall (between the work-/guestroom and the bathroom) will be placed here.

Here is a detail from the kitchen corner. You might see that the floor surfaces don't reach the outer walls. The openings facilitate general run-through for pipes and cabling. After an hour on site I went home working. Returning at 7pm we wanted to see today's accomplishments. We were thrilled. The carpenters had made a great job!

Here all prefabricated walls have been lifted and mounted properly. As all walls are located, the only way to reach the ground floor is by using a temporary staircase from the basement.

This picture is from the northwest showing the kitchen as seen from the outside. It is marvellous to see the house evolving and to recognize all the details decided a year ago.

Here's the kitchen corner. There are two tall and narrow windows to the north and one to the west just about where the washing-up sinks will be.

This picture was taken eastwards in the living room and a top element is remaining to make this wall complete. You also see the main partition wall between the living room and the bathroom. To the left you see proper glulam beam enabling the large opening between the kitchen and the living room.

Finally a picture shot from the scaffolds' upper floor towards southwest. Mainly you see the kitchen and the living room. In the foreground you see the start of the upper floor's system of beams that is be built tomorrow!
